This program brings together Buddhist teachings of emptiness and interdependence, awakening and liberation, embodied mindfulness, and nature-connection practices to explore what it means to be human — and to belong — in a world that is wild, uncertain, impermanent, and astonishingly alive. We will practice in nature, with nature, and as nature.

Through meditation, direct sensory encounter, and grief work that reconnects rather than overwhelms, we will open to an animate world of rocks, clouds, birds, wind, and stars. The practices offered here are ones you can return to for a lifetime, supporting your relationship with the earth and your understanding of your own human life.

Cancellation Policy

This program is offered freely in the spirit of generosity, supported in part by Dharma Gates and the broader community of donors of Barre Center for Buddhist Studies. To ensure participant commitment and attendance, a $100 registration deposit is required and can be refunded upon completion of the full program. If you would like to be refunded, please reach out to Dharma Gates at offerings@dharma-gates.org. The fee will be refunded upon your attendance at the program.

Noble Silence

Noble silence will be observed during much of this program. Some contemplative exercises may involve mindful speaking and listening. Noble silence is to be upheld at all other times.

A Note on Dana Culture & Cancellation Policy

Dharma Gates events are offered within the practice of Dana (दान), the Sanskrit/Pali word meaning generosity or giving. Rather than operating on a fee structure, we instead ask you to engage with us in a relationship of reciprocity, giving what feels aligned with your circumstances and values. If these experiences are precious to you, we invite you to donate in a way that reflects that. Doing so will breathe life into our efforts, helping us to continue creating beautiful, accessible practice opportunities for young people for years to come. Donation is possible upon registration, or by visiting this link.

To support participant commitment and attendance, there is a $50 registration deposit, which can be refunded up to 3 weeks in advance of a cancellation or upon completion of the full program.

Experience Level

Suitable for beginning and experienced practitioners.

Prerequisites

This program is for participants ages 18-35 only.
